my word of the year 🌼+ overall goals for 2018

I have chosen a word of the year for the last five years.  In 2016, I chose press forward and in 2017 I chose flourish.  For 2018, I have chosen bloom for my word of the year.

After five and a half years, I’m sharing why I still struggle feeling like Georgia is home and how I want bloom to be an overall positive intention to help me with that and other things I have struggled with since moving here.

The short of it though:
I chose this because the phrase bloom where you are planted kept coming to me.  I finally feel like we have a group of people here that makes our sense of community feel rounded out.  However, that feeling of this isn’t my home still lingers and holds me back in a lot of situations.  Our first few years here were the opposite of blooming, I was completely depressed and wilting.  It has taken a few years to get over the anxiety here and feel safe and vulnerable here;  honestly, I’m still working on it.

You’ll notice the broad goals that I have made throughout the year are to help me feel more at home here and to keep blooming throughout 2018.  I discuss these in more detail in my video, but you’ll be seeing these as my categories for which I list goals this year monthly.🌼

  1. Simplify our home
  2. Become healthier
  3. Learn more
  4. Share/make content that means something to someone
  5. Learn to really love Georgia

I’m excited to bloom in 2018, to really keep developing personally, and connect with more people.  It isn’t too late to choose a word of the year and I have an awesome freebie if you are looking for 100 ideas and tips on choosing your own!

What word have you set to see you through 2018?  What kind of goals are you setting for yourself?

This is awesome. I did this too this year but I have a word and a phrase. My word is dedicate because I want to dedicate more time to family, my blog, God, myself and friends, and my phrase is “Even When.” I chose this because it reminds me that even when things go bad, because God says they will, even when we have trials and hard times in our lives, even when tragic strikes or we get overwhelmed or we relapse in our mental health state or addiction or whatever, that we need to learn to be still, breathe, and remember that things will be ok. The word will not end if we don’t get that laundry done, or if we fail a test or whatever, your friend isn’t going to hate you if you don’t text them back right away, and even if things are bad this year, there will be atleast one thing that you can be grateful for by the end of the year…so to take one thing a step at a time, one day at a time, breathe and know that it will all be ok. I wrote a blog post about this…link down below, if you want to check it out. Great post, loved it, can’t wait to read more! 🙂

I love ‘bloom’!! I painted a ‘bloom with grace’ canvas for my room and it’s always such an inspiration to me! I love your blog and your goals for the new year! Looking forward to reading more from you 🙂

  • I love the word bloom! And I’m excited to see how you interpret it throughout the year. I decided not to do a word or phrase this year but I’m focusing on a few broad goals/themes, so we’ll see how it goes!
