July recap + August goals

July has now come and gone!  I’m excited to share my July recap + August goals to see where I’ve been, what I’m doing, and where I hope to end up this month.  I feel like this was a productive month and I’m happy to see some positive changes in my life.  I hope I can keep flourishing for the rest of this year (that feels like it is wrapping up pretty quickly!).

HIGHS

  • I have lost 11 pounds this month doing Keto.  I’m talking more about this specifically in a post coming up, but as someone with thyroid issues this is huge.
  • I went to my endocrinologist appointment (these are super hard to book!).  Although his bedside manner was a little lacking, it was very validating to know that my autoimmune stuff probably started in 2013 even though it was not diagnosed until 2016.  This only validates me in the reason why I talk about autoimmune illness so much on my blog and social media.
  • I am really enjoying my continuing education class for my teaching license.  I’ve never taken a writing class for fun and I like noticing more things in my own writing and in other people’s.
  • Ashley Lamar made a media kit for my blog which looks awesome while I made a digital media kit for my blog and revamped my about me page!  A huge thanks to Ashley Lamar for giving me writing feedback and tips.
My $12 fiddle leaf fig tree has now been potted and has a home in our office with my $75 couch and $25 dollar desk . So excited to watch my plant spread out and become even more leafy (and to finish the room up)! #autumnnests
I just started my first continuing ed class for my teaching license today. I have no idea what a class about "travel writing" does to benefit my teaching ability, but I'll happily take the class since Georgia approves .
A win for my office: I've thought a cow picture would be pretty for a long time . I can't promise what I'll bring home, but I can promise that I'll love it and have it a very long time. I think when I get rid of/use up those boxes, a tall plant would help balance it out though. #homewithautumn
Me to my flower clippings: "it's okay, I get it. My hair is bushy when it is cut short too." I might need to cut more to even this out though (a thing you never want to hear about your hair though ).

LOWS

  • It has been pretty hot outside and I’ve been kind of angsty because I need more sunshine and less mosquitoes in my life, but if that is all I have to complain about beyond just therapy self-discovery woes then I have a great life.
Can we talk about how therapy sometimes REALLY is before life feels better? I've never been one to avoid my emotions or how I feel so it has surprised me how intense this experience is. Having someone point out patterns and give you extra insights about your life, your relationships, experiences, and anything else going on is both life changing and heart breaking sometimes. The past few weeks has been such a weird combo of being so frustrated, but also so empowered. I've never understood the stigma to mental health treatment, but I sure am grateful for the resources I have. Anything you need to do to shine, you do. ️

MY FAVORITES

  • I discovered the podcast Bold New Mom last month and I continue to recommend it again this month.  I love every single episode on this thing!
  • I bought this Pitching to Brands ebook from Ashley and it is so worth the money.  It was so helpful and I’ve recommended it to several people!
  • I beta-tested Ashley’s Finding Your Niche as a Lifestyle Blogger e-course which includes a lot of powerpoints with voice overs, videos, worksheets, and a great workbook.  I highly recommend it and it has helped me really improve the focus on my blog and narrow down topics in the future.  I highly recommend!
  • Loads of keto recipes.  These are the ones I’ve been collecting!

Now for goals 🙂 …

June goals: join the #MonthlyGold linkup and share a post with your monthly goals, 101 in 1001 goals, or a post detailing a goal you have accomplished! | Stay gold Autumn

Reviewing goals from July

  • Spend 30 minutes daily doing something spiritual
  • Spend 30 minutes doing maintenance cleaning everyday
Having a house guest come definitely helped with this A LOT.  I need people to come to our house on a rotating basis 🙂 .
  • Continue purging every room in our house to simplify more
Our master bedroom and our third bedroom are my projects.
  • Go to the temple
  • Post 1 travel post
Nope, but I have one scheduled to come soon though!  Next time I won’t wait so long to do posts because it definitely adds some stress.  The spontaneous nature of our European vacation last time also makes me realize that I need to have a travel journal.
  • Post 1 recipe
I’m a little out of my element with starting new dietary stuff for myself, but I’m learning!
  • Finish 2 books
Ebooks totally count!  Look for my recommendations in the favorites section! 🙂

Goals for August

  • Spend 30 minutes daily doing something spiritual
  • Spend 30 minutes doing maintenance cleaning everyday
  • List all of my grad school textbooks that I haven’t used
  • Pick one of our bedrooms to purge
  • Post 1 travel post
  • Schedule/write out two weeks ahead with blogging

What were some high and lows for you in July?  What is a goal you have for August?

I hate it when dr’s have no bedside manners, but I’m still glad you got some answers!

    • Faaaact. I was so frustrated after my appointment with him because the tact wasn’t there, but I think he is very good at what he does.

  • Excited for those upcoming posts! And I’ve never been to therapy as an adult, but I can only imagine how hard the emotional work would be! If my anxiety doesn’t lessen to where it was before all the hard stuff happened this year, I’ll probably be checking into it sooner or later.

Also, I’m excited to be checking into that podcast you recommended. I’ve never listened to it before, but it sounds like I might really like it, too!

    • In my situation, therapy is so much harder before it gets better, I think. A lot of mine is noticing patterns in relationships/ how people treat me and then me feeling very frustrated. It seems to be a huge cycle. I’ve been going regularly since November and it has been a pretty angsty time for me. If yours is anxiety and not outside stuff, it could be a lot easier to figure out more coping strategies.

I love the podcast and I hope you love it as much as I do!

  • I really need to spend 30 minutes on maintenance cleaning daily. I did start deep-cleaning the kitchen yesterday, which I’ll finish today.

Love your media kit! You are killing it on Pinterest! Any tips?

    • I use tailwind, booster, and then pin randomly throughout the day when I see stuff. I also use a lot of group boards in Pinterest as well as tribes in Tailwind. I’m not sure which strategy is best, honestly, but it saves me a solid everyday so it has been worth it.

When you’re feeling poorly, it is so hard to keep up with the house. I’ve had a break from it recently and it has been so good for deep cleaning. I hope things start to turn around for you soon too!
