HOW WE WORE IT // fall sweaters

I enjoy doing the how we wore it outfit collaboration hosted by Deidre.  You’re welcome to go to her blog and sign up! πŸ™‚ This month’s theme was all about fall sweaters  The outfit inspiration was from Diary of a Debutante below.

I always feel slightly awkward talking about clothing/style on my blog because do you have the be the world’s most fashionable person to believe in aesthetics?  The answer is an obvious no, but I really like this platform to help myself reflect on what I am wanting out of my closet and how I want it to represent who I am and where I am in life.  I do believe that the way we dress ourselves and present ourselves makes a huge difference in how we feel and as someone who is a bit of a romantic, this kind of thing is really important to me as an individual.

Recently, I feel like I’ve really been obsessing over the aesthetics of my closet.  When I was in grad school, there wasn’t any extra money and I have been overhauling my closet in the following ways:

  • I have been getting rid of anything in my closet that is not in my color palette.
  • I have been getting rid of anything that is worn out or is stained beyond repair.

I’m a thrift store junkie and clothing is the only thing I am super oddly sentimental/ have mild hoarding tendencies over.  So, it was not difficult to get rid of items.  However, figuring out what to replace it with has been another situation entirely.

I’ve spent the last few weeks researching how to perfect the teacher casual and the I’m in my late 20s look and what that looks like for me.  It took me more than I realized to figure out what I would like, but I had to first acknowledge that I have to really stay away from more twee fashion.  Admittedly, I didn’t even realize I developed such an affinity for it, but I blame people like Zooey Deschanel who I relate to by the characters they play on TV.

While I was going through my closet I figured out these were the items I enjoyed the most:

  • Clothing items that are more classic
  • Clothing items that are neutral
  • Clothing items that had a classic pattern (polka dots, knit)
  • Cardigans (I already knew that one)
  • Classic cut items with small unique details
  • More vintage accessories

SO, I used my budget to basically buy a new wardrobe from ThredUp, an online consignment store, after two friends tried it out; your first order is 40% off and I couldn’t really resist the prices I found there.  I’m excited to try out new clothes that fit all of those criteria, to go a little out of my comfort zone, and to share more about figuring out this style thing.

  • Love the outfit, especially your boots and top! You’re definitely my idol, I have never even thought about analyzing through my closet and reading this totally made me realize I sorely need to. πŸ™‚

    • Those boots are normally $140 and I was able to get them for $30?! They are real leather and waterproof….yay Canadian companies!! You already have an amazing style and know what you like. I’ve always had preferences in the past, but wouldn’t invest to get it so I ended up with a lot of non-staples in my wardrobe.
