Mom’s homemade cookies

Mom's homemade cookies: every time I go home, I always look forward to these cookies being fresh out of the oven. | via The Spirited Violet

One of my favorite things about going home is the food.  No joke.  My parents are really good cooks!  They love catering church events for fun and their kitchen is definitely their most used rooms.  My Mom has made these cookies off and on when we’ve visited and they are kind of becoming my favorite!  She clipped this recipe out of a magazine several years ago, but I’m unsure of which otherwise I would site it.

Ingredients
  1. 1 cup of butter, softened
  2. 1 cup packed brown sugar
  3. 3/4 cup sugar
  4. 2 eggs
  5. 1.5 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  6. 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
  7. 1.25 teaspoons baking soda
  8. 1 teaspoon salt
  9. 1 package (12 oz.) semisweet chocolate chips
  10. 2 cups coarsely chopped walnuts, toasted
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, cream the butter, brown sugar and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well.
  2. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.
  3. Shape quarter cupfuls of dough into balls. Place in an airtight container, separating layers with waxed or parchment paper; cover and refrigerate 12 hours or overnight.
  4. To bake, place dough balls 3 inches apart on parchment paper-lined baking sheets. Press a shallow indentation in the center of each with your thumb, reshaping sides to smooth any cracks.
  5. Let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  6. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Cool for 2 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks; cool.
