April goals

I have slowed down with blogging this past month to allow myself space to prepare everything for graduation, to enjoy Mexico, and I plan on doing the same this next month.  After my phone was stolen, I spent about 9 days without cell phone service/ a smart phone and I realized I didn’t miss the feeling never ending connection.  Coming back, I found myself stepping away from technology more and creating more boundaries for myself.  It was pretty easy to keep up because I’m positive I came back with something from Mexico and it took me a solid week to get rid of it.  This month I have my final paper to complete and present and my last semester of graduate school finals and projects- wish me luck!  Feel free to join the linkup below so we can help each other track progress on goals!

Goals for April:

  • Read 30 chapters of scriptures, 10 church talks/lessons, and go to the temple once
  • Have everything finished for graduation!
  • Clean the whole house in anticipation of parents visiting
  • Restaurant budget under $80 for the month..because Europe this summer
  • Read 4 books for fun
  • Drink only water

Reviewing goals from March:

  • Read 31 chapters of scriptures, 10 church talks/lessons, and go to the temple once
I was halfway through my scripture goal and I ended up reading a lot of talks.  I didn’t take scriptures with me in Mexico and planned on just reading off of my phone.  That didn’t work well when my phone was stolen.
  • Finish the reflections and professional developments for my graduation portfolio
Almost finished, but not enough to put it on here.
  • Finish the material for my presentation in Mexico
Yup!  This was out of necessity since I presented it to 50+ people haha!
  • Be 90% finished with my master’s final paper
Nope, but I did present it in Mexico and find a lot of gaps I had in research I had done.
  • Read 4 books for fun
I ended up reading 3 books.  With being sick and traveling for 9 days, I’d say I did well! 🙂
  • Post 1 recipe on the blog
I actually posted two.  One was my original pan fried brussel sprouts recipe and the other was a croissant pudding with custard and blueberries from a cookbook I reviewed.

What is a goal you have for March?

  • I seriously need to star blogging about my monthly goals again! It totally helped me keep my head above water and stay organized. Also, gave me motivation because I was sharing my goals with all my readers! Thank’s for sharing and giving me motivation!

  • You’re almost done with school! Yay!

  • It’s really nice to have an awesome reason to save money on little luxuries–we’re going to Japan this summer so I’m in the same position of saving a little extra now so that we can go out to eat while we’re there! 🙂

    • YES! Having a reason to save makes it a million times more enjoyable. I can’t even be unhappy about it because I am excited about going!

Wow, what awesome goals! I love that your first goal is to read scripture, always putting God first. I am so jealous you are going to Europe this summer. Enjoy and have fun!

    • Thanks Tara! It is my first goal on here, but I still have a lot of room to improve. Thanks for all of your encouragement!!

  • I left my iPad at home and my husband and I are on the road. I think I don’t miss the feeling of always staring at my device, too 🙂 Where in Europe do you plan to go??? That sounds exciting!

    • That’s so smart! We always leave our phones in the glove box when we go into restaurants for dates :). We are flying into Slovenia, but still figuring out the rest of the trip this summer!

Disconnecting came be hard, but I also try to do it as often as I can. I was away from my phone for 8 hours the other day at my second job, and honestly it felt good to not be staring at my phone. I really enjoyed just chatting with my co-workers on my break. I also think you have good goals for April. All the best with your graduation. My goal for April is definitely to hopefully sign the papers for a condo, which we are hoping to take possession of this month. I am beyond excited.

    • So exciting about your condo- congratulations!! I’m glad you had a great work and just chatted with your coworkers. I’ve noticed that sometimes I look at my phone to mask anxiety.

Good for you with disconnecting! I’ve been unplugging most nights lately to just read in bed, and I feel like my life has been so much more relaxed because of it!

  • Which 3 books did you read in March and do you recommend them?

    • I read The Secret to Hummingbird Cake, Without you there is no Us, and Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)? I really loved the first two a lot, but I didn’t like Mindy’s book as much as I thought I would. The book reviews are here: http://www.staygoldautumn.com/2016/03/bookshelf-updates-2/

I’m seeing you’re a bookreader too so I will have to check that out!

      • Ooh! I’ll have to check out your reviews of these books! Thanks!

        • I am trying to figure out how to get to your blog again and can’t!! I can’t find your URL on your Disqus page, but I lucked out and found it the other day to comment on your book post.

          • Weird! I’ll have to look into that! Thanks for telling me! My blog is Elle-alice.blogspot.com
